Introduction to Vedic Astrology

Begin your journey into the ancient wisdom of Jyotish

What is Vedic Astrology?

Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish (meaning "science of light"), is an ancient system of astrology originating from the Vedas of India. It provides profound insights into the human experience by studying the positions and movements of celestial bodies at the time of one's birth.

Unlike Western astrology, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which accounts for the precession of the equinoxes. This means planetary positions are calculated based on their actual position against the backdrop of fixed stars, providing more astronomically accurate readings.

Key Insight

The word "Jyotish" comes from Sanskrit roots: jyoti (light) and isha (lord), literally meaning "Lord of Light" - referring to both celestial luminaries and inner illumination.

Core Components

A Vedic birth chart (called a Kundali or Rashi Chart) consists of several key elements that work together to reveal your life's blueprint:

Planets

Nine celestial bodies (Navagrahas) including the Sun, Moon, and lunar nodes Rahu & Ketu

Signs

Twelve zodiac signs (Rashis) representing different qualities and elements

Houses

Twelve houses (Bhavas) representing different life areas from career to relationships
